  • Made it to India

I flew from Kathmandu to Japiur and spent a couple days there, and now I’m in Udaipur. Both cities are in Rajasthan in northwest India. I took what was planned to be an overnight train from Jaipur to Udaipur. It was scheduled for 10:25 pm, but didn’t arrive until 6:10 am, so I spent the […]

  • Chitwan

I made it back to Kathmandu after a quick couple days in Chitwan National Park. This morning I rode an elephant around the jungle, and yesterday saw some rhinos on a jeep safari. I have a bunch of photos to upload, but haven’t had any time to go through them. Stay tuned. Tomorrow I’m flying […]

  • Dashain

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve been trying to take full advantage of my time here. Most days that has meant being out on the streets shooting by 5:30am, and crashing at about 9 at night, without much in the way of downtime in between. I’ve taken more than 6000 pictures so far, though […]

  • Bhaktapur, Day 1

I arrived at Kathmandu this afternoon. The flights and layovers and everything went smoothly, and my hosts are terrific. I had a chance to walk around Bhaktapur for a couple hours and took a few photos. Right now I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow morning I head to Pokhara. Update: I’ve uploaded […]

  • Nepal and India

This coming Friday I’ll be heading to Nepal and India. My friend Anuj grew up in Bhaktapur near Kathmandu, and he’ll be home visiting while I’m there so we should be able to travel around a bit together. The first part of the trip I’ll be in Nepal, mainly around Kathmandu and Pokhara, and toward […]

  • Lith Printing

I’ve been working in the darkroom with lith printing. By messing with the the type of paper and the developer dilution and development time, the color and the balance between the shadows and mid-tones can be manipulated. These are printed on black and white paper from black and white negatives.

  • Ithaca, NY

I’m up in Ithaca for a conference at Cornell. It’s a beautiful place, and I’ve had some time to walk around and take some photos.

  • Back in Istanbul

Rather than spending just one day in Ankara, I caught a connection to Istanbul on an overnight bus. There’s a lot here that I’d still like to see.

  • Goreme to Ankara

Cappadocia has been really beautiful. I’m headed for the to bus to Ankara in a few minutes. Nobody has had anything nice to say about Ankara, but it’s halfway to Istanbul from here, and hopefully the Archeaology museum is worth a day-long layover there. …much later, I’ve added photos from my second and third days […]

  • Cappadocia, Day 1

Here are some photos from Goreme in Cappadocia. I feel lucky to have snow on the ground and some blue skies this afternoon.

  • Konya

Here’s a quick post to say that I’ve made it to Konya. I’ll post more about the last few days soon, but for now I’ll say that I’m amazed at how helpful people here have been. I’ve felt completely safe and very well taken care of. …much later. I’ve added photos from my time in […]

  • Happy New Year

Last night was a lot of fun. There are about seven of us who have become friends since I got here. Alex and Marta got us invited to a house party through a friend from back home in Croatia. It was about 1/3 Turkish people and mostly expats. I think I was the only Amerıcan. […]
